Visiting Venice is the most inspiring time spent. The pale, shifting light reflecting off the water beautifully illuminates the architecture, and I can still hear the lively sounds of Venetians chatting as their voices reverberate through the narrow streets and canals. I spent several wonderful, immersive days sketching on location, and this oil painting is one of a series of thoughtful studies that came out of that visit.

I spent a some time in Panama having moved there as my husband was retiring and we both liked tropical weather. I planted this bush not knowing what would come of it, but it always produced masses of flowers new every day. I painted it from the patio with the aim to have a permanent reminder of the bright colours and the wonders that were all around us.. It was loved by hummingbirds as well as the rare-green frogs (see if you can find one). Picture size h36” x 48” unframed.
