This is my dog Benson, who I very recently had to have put ‘to sleep’ as he was in pain with a variety of issues - he was 14 years old and a lovely cuddly bear. I miss him so much - I needed to do some Therapy and this is the result. Creativity heals. Thank you Benson.

Daisy Chain Maker - a groupie of a local band. Painted in oil on canvas - so much to like. The hand knitted sleeves the huge earrings and the look of concentration! NFS
I was invited to give a demonstration to an Art Club and I asked them to provide the model. I had no idea what I would get but when this lovely young lady stepped on to the stage - I asked her to take off her jacket then, quickly said ‘stop' - there is was, a wonderful A-symetrical stance, perfect head line. I spent the next two hours in ‘my own space’ completely forgetting the 100+ people watching who I was supposed to tell what colour I was using and why. But they were all very polite and loved the result.
Phoebe: Oil on canvas: 20” x 18” : private collection. Sample of head to hands. Commissions from £1000.
The process……..
The aim of portrait painting is to capture more than just a likeness, but to seek and reveal character and inner strengths. This relies upon a certain amount of collaboration between artist and sitter and there are many options. When working from your own photographs I usually ask for several to give me a rounded informative view.
Portraits are crafted using professional materials which can be oils, acrylics on canvas, or watercolours and pastels on paper.
They are typically:-
Head to shoulders : which can be small - A4 size +
Head down to hands - A3 +
Full sitting or standing A1 +++
There can be multiple figures on one canvas including pets and family treasures.
Individual studies of people, children and pets in pencil or ink start at £150.00 (these are included in the price of a full oil painting).
The procedure: After an initial discussion, a time and date will be set for the first sitting.
With full oils/acrylics a minimum of 3-4 sittings of at least one-hour will be scheduled. At the first sitting and after studies, sketch ideas will be presented and after approval, the final work will be started. This can take up to 2-months to complete and a further month to allow the paint to ‘cure’ if working with oil paints. Framing can be arranged.
Drawings take less time and -approximately 1.5 hours and only one sitting - or from a suitable acceptable photograph.
To start the process - let’s have a conversation. Send me your contact details and we’ll take it from there - without obligation.
